2, 2011 - The Birth Being a breeder is one of
the hardest jobs in the world I think.
As much fun and joy our dogs bring into our lives, having babies,
though a completely natural thing, is not easy. Life is a delicate thing and
birthing experiences are often heartbreaking. We are grateful that along with
heartbreak this birth experience also brought joy. Two beautiful little
Tricolor girls to love and be proud of. And, of course, we are so thankful
that Faye was never in any danger for her life despite her struggle to bring
her babies into the world. So… ONTO THE JOY!!!! We are very happy to
announce the arrival of Faye’s two healthy baby girls, who came out easily
without any trouble, Aubrey first at 2:48 a.m. and then Amelia, who arrived
at 3:50 a.m. Aubrey was born weighing 9.6
ounces, a VERY healthy weight. She arrived without incident and was strong
and healthy from the start, ready to nurse as soon as she was cleaned up. She
is perfect and is going to be stunning. Amelia, which means little
flyer, quite literally flew right out. Okay, there was more sliding than
flying, but she came out real easy just the same! That is thanks to her more
manageable size, a healthy 5.5 ounces. I chose the name without even knowing the
meaning behind it (my friend Kris is the one who told me afterward) but it
turned out to be completely fitting. She is perfect also and is going to be
cute as a button. I would
like to extend my gratitude to my friend Kris, who came out to help me when
things got rough. I never would have been able to help Faye alone and I am so
thankful to have such a wonderful friend to depend on who will come running
in the wee hours of the morning without question (as long as she has coffee!)
Thank you, Kris, for waging the Breeders Battle with me, for sweating by my
side and working so hard, for supporting me through my tears, and for all
your wealth of knowledge that you continue to pass onto me. You are a
treasure to me. |

Aubrey
(lower) & Amelia Cuddling
together |

We are very sad to deliver news that
Amelia passed away Sunday evening. It became evident that something inside
her body was not working properly because from birth she never one time
voided her bladder, although she could poo. We did everything we could to
help her in hopes that she would eventually be able to urinate and gain back
her strength, but she never did. She continued to decline. When it was
obvious she was not going to make it we administered pain medication and I
held her cuddled to my breast with oxygen until her body finally gave out.
This appears to be an internal malformation exclusively affecting Amelia. A
puppy not peeing is something we have never seen before. Obviously while she was forming in the womb
something just didn’t go together quite right. It was very sad to see her go. Her sister, Aubrey, continues to do
well. At this time we do not see any reasons for concern for her health. She
is nursing, eliminating, sleeping, etc. all on a normal level. This page will
continue to be updated weekly with Aubrey’s photos and her latest happenings.
She is going to be one very spoiled loved to bits little puppy! I now also need to extend my gratitude to
my friend Shelly, who consulted and advised via phone what to do next, and
who offered to travel a distance to come over and sit with me through all the
night in hopes we would be able to turn things around. This is not how things
went. Unfortunately, Shelly never got to finish packing up supplies, as
Amelia declined too rapidly. So through the phone Shelly offered her comfort
and support. She was with me in voice the moment Amelia passed away, and then
on into the evening as we talked over things until eventually we moved onto
new subjects which helped me to move past the loss. She even got me laughing
in the end. Shelly, to me you are
godsend, so full of wisdom, and I am truly blessed to know you. |

9, 2011 - 1 Week This past week has been full
of ups and downs, heartbreak and worry, and not much sleep. But I am glad to
say that Millie is doing wonderfully now. Everything that happened had its
effects on both Momma Faye and her now only surviving daughter, Millie but we
have weathered the bulk of the storm of loss and have prevailed through the
struggles the fight for survival of this tiny being so small and helpless
that has now become the center of our world (and our bedroom!) Millie is
nursing strong and often, moving about and behaving as a normal healthy
growing puppy her age should. Momma Faye, who loves her baby and takes very
loving care of her too, is becoming more and more interested in her food on
her own and without being hand fed every morsel. All of this, of course, is a
HUGE relief. That and…. At last I got to sleep
worry-free last night. |

16, 2011 - 2 Weeks Millie just seems to have
grown over night! She has opened her eyes to the world, she nuzzles around
and gets on the nipple all by herself like a pro, and is putting on the
tenths of ounces (lol) like a champ! She’s a big roly-poly puppy now. She is
very content, hardly ever cries or complains. She likes to be cuddled and
picked up and nuzzles underneath my neck quite happily. It won’t be long
before she is waddling around. I’m so thankful that she is doing well. And
Momma Faye is doing better with eating, although there is still room for
improvement. But overall, I’m just so THANKFUL! I love this little fur-bundle
very much and my sweet Faylene too! |

23, 2011 - 3 Weeks Well this little girl just
keeps growing! She is starting to wobble around on four legs, she growls (at
what, who knows! LOL) Soon she’ll be romping around between our feet. She is
still a very content little pup, rarely complains or cries. She is the sweetest
little thing. We just love her! Faye continues to be a very good momma. We
certainly are enjoying our two roommates! |

30, 2011 - 4 Weeks I don’t think it’s possible
to measure the cuteness of this baby! She has grown so much (AGAIN!) She is
walking all about and tried her first puppy mush this week. Like everything
it will take some getting used to, especially the itty-bitty grainy bits. Even
though they are tiny she spits them out but she likes the taste so it won’t
be long before she is hungrily gulping it down. If the weather holds up next
week she may be able to go out for a little time in the sun with Momma Faye
out on the deck. |

October 7,
2011 -
5 Weeks The beautiful weather has
been on our side this year allowing Millie lots of time outdoors with her
momma. She has graduated to the main level of our home now, all set up in a
nice pen for overnight with an opening for momma to hop over and inside. But
during the day Millie enjoys having the run of the living room with all the
toys and space to play in. She has met our other dogs and now which means she
has new friends! |

October 14,
2011 -
6 Weeks I wouldn’t expect anything
different, but Millie just gets more beautiful by the day. She has the
gorgeous looks of her daddy and a wonderful loving personality like her
Momma. She is eating like a big girl now, enjoying her Deli Fresh dog food
and sometimes nibbling on a bit of kibble. She still likes to try to nurse,
but I at this point she doesn’t get much more out of it than comfort. Of
course there is nothing like some comfort from your Mommie!—So that’s OK! She
is learning to go potty on a pee pee pad, although she also goes on the floor
with no mind to where she is but we’re always so proud of her when she
scurries across the floor to her pad and goes. She is a good girl! |
|
October 20,
2011 -
7 Weeks Does it get old saying she
just keeps getting cuter and cuter? Well it doesn’t get old looking at her!
She is truly a gorgeous little girl. The Ophthalmologist said she has
beautiful clear eyes (of course we already knew that!) And she is healthy and
continues to grow and thrive. Today she learned how to go up and down the
deck stairs and had fun romping around in the grass and nibbling on apples in
our orchard. |

October 28,
2011 -
8 Weeks BOO! Look at this cute video
of my little trick-or-treater—Too cute! This little darling has passed all of
her exams with flying colors. She is so beautiful and such a big girl. She
has been going outside now along with all the other dogs and loves it! She is
so cute at night because at around 9 o’clock she puts herself to bed. She
just gets up from where ever she is at and goes into her kennel and snuggles
up with her blankie for the night. Such a good girl! |

November 7,
2011 -
91/2 Weeks Millie is getting ready to
go to her new home. I can’t believe how fast the time went. She is a
beautiful girl and I know her new mommy will be thrilled with her! |
