Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Puppy

“Rudy”

December 13, 2010  -  The Birth

At about 5:00 am, Izjah, began panting and being restless. I was happy because I knew this meant the puppies would be born during the day instead of through the night as usual. So with anticipation I watched and kept a close eye, and at 11:00 am the first puppy arrived without any complication, a beautiful, healthy little boy. From there Izjah continued birthing without any complications. I knew there was likely to be 7 babies coming but the surprise was when out came boy after boy after boy! I was hoping for a basketful of girls because I was planning to keep one for my very own. But 1, 2, 3, 4, FIVE boys later I thought, “You have GOT to be kidding!” It certainly can happen to have an entire litter of one sex, but my heart was aching for a little girl after the loss of our little Penelope. At 2:40 in the afternoon puppy number 6 came out and I cried because there she was. My girl, so tiny and petite and cute. I was so happy. And I was sure there was one more. I was sure I could feel it and hear its little heartbeat. But when 2 hours passed after having all the other puppies come so quickly I began to doubt another was coming. But then all of a sudden Izjah got up and pushed and out came one more puppy—a final very teeny-tiny little boy! This birth was the easiest of all Izjah’s births and I am happy to announce their arrival!

Being that Christmas is drawing near I felt it fitting to give the pups names befitting my favorite holiday. Below are their photos in the order of their appearance each with a little personal info.

December 20, 2010  -  1 Week

These little snugglers are so cute and adorable! They are a very content little bunch of puppies, all growing strong and all healthy as can be. Tiny Tim is keeping up with everybody and from the start has been a strong nurser, nursing all on his own with no need for supplementing. I keep a careful vigil on the group and always make sure everyone gets on a nipple, giving Tiny Tim and Elfeeni extra time and first dibs LOL. I have been getting more rest than I usually get with a litter this young because these little ones are so content. Our bedroom is kept nice and toasty warm with a space heater so they are completely comfortable. Momma is doing great, eating well and taking very good care of her little ones. Next week most of the puppies eyes will open and their ears will unseal. Tiny Tim likely won’t reach this milestone until he is well into his 3rd week since he was a bit immature.

We are enjoying these little Christmas Cuties and hope all of you are as warm and cozy as we!

Well these little cuties can be full of surprises. Their eyes are opening as expected, however what we didn’t expect was for Tiny Tim to be right in with his brothers, in fact, ahead of a few like Nick. Who we consider one of his BIG brothers. Nick is taking his own time to open his eyes and that’s just fine with us, but like we said, it’s a surprise.

The pups look so cute with their eyes open. It’s a little peek into their personality shining thorough. They are all doing terrific and now that their eyes are open their world is expanding as something to discover new things in. Soon they will be wobbling on their feet instead of “army crawling” about, and by four weeks they will be playing with each other! How fun! Already they are finding their little growls, so cute!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!! Well, we’re off to a great start here. The puppies continue to grow healthy and are all right on track developmentally and physically. In fact, they are all now walking on all fours! And when I make the “kiss-kiss” sound, they turn toward me to find it.

This is an absolutely beautiful litter. They all have wonderful broken up color, nice heads, and their expressions are so cute. They have all completely stolen my heart. I think everyone should have a puppy to snuggle up to this year! It sure makes MY day!

January 10, 2011 -  4 Weeks

If these puppies get any cuter I might cry every day!! I look at each of these faces and I say, “How can you even be real you are SO cute!” The pups have become much more mobile. They are sitting up, turning their heads when someone enters the room, and a few are seeking out attention.

Rudy is sticking to being 1st in everything. 1st born, 1st to open his eyes, 1st to walk, and this week, 1st to crawl out of the pen! I use swim noodles as a “baseboard” for cushioning around the perimeter of the pen 3 noodles high, but in front of the entry I only had two, for easier access for Mommy Izjah. I came into the room one time and there was Rudy, out on the carpet! So I changed the entry to 3 high!

Now the pups have been moved from out of our bedroom to down into the main family room. Their pen is bigger. They now have a pee-poo pad area to start training them to go off of their sleeping area. And they have access to puppy kibble and water to begin tasting, which they will eventually be devouring faster than I can keep up with my coupons to buy more food!

I am having a completely impossible time choosing which boy I will keep. I say again, LOOK at those faces! I feel like the luckiest person on the planet to be able to play and cuddle these little darlings every day!
